Handrails in Christchurch

Internal and external handrails and grab rails for homes, offices and shops in Christchurch.

Handrails for Christchurch properties

Whether you want handrails in your home, your office, or a retail or hospitality space, we have handrails to suit. We work across Christchurch, including Somerford, Burton, Highcliffe and Walkford, fitting rails that help people move around with confidence.

Every job begins with a consultation in which we look at the location, the purpose of the rails and how they should look. Our team then designs bespoke rails, manufactures them with care and fits them securely. Products are British designed and built, and our handrails come with a 12-month guarantee on labour and parts. We can also look at existing rails that have become loose and put them right.

Disabled handrails and grab rails

Grab rails reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls in bathrooms, hallways and entrances. They can be customised to blend with the rest of the space, so support is there when needed without looking out of place in a home or a business. They can be fitted horizontally, vertically or at an angle, depending on the space and the person using them.

Internal and external handrails

External rails beside front steps and ramps help visitors in wet weather, while internal rails on stairs and landings give support between floors. We plan each rail around the route people actually take, so there are no gaps where a hand has nothing to hold. External rails are made to cope with rain and frost, so they stay safe to hold through the year.

Handrails inside and out

Stainless steel handrails

For offices, shops and blocks of flats, stainless steel rails with glass infill give a clean, modern entrance. A rounded end at the top of a flight avoids a sharp edge and is easy to find by hand. Stainless steel is sturdy, durable and easy to keep clean, and it suits busy public spaces where many people use the same rail every day.

Black stepped handrail at the end of a raised terrace on a park home

Stepped handrail to a terrace

At the left-hand end of this raised terrace, a stepped handrail follows the stairs down to the paving. It is fixed to the same posts as the terrace railings, so the whole run is one piece. Diamond detail on some bars matches the rest of the metalwork.

Rail beside short steps

Only a few steps lead up to this platform, but a handrail on the open side still gives a steady grip. Brackets fix the rail posts to the brick base, and timber screening stands beside it. It is a practical addition where a step up is needed at the door.

Handrail round a turning stair

Photographed from below, this handrail turns round the stairwell without a break. The dark rail contrasts with the bright stainless balusters, which makes the handhold easy to see. A continuous rail like this suits offices and flats where stairs are used all day.

Rail up to a front door

A white front door sits at the top of these brick steps, with a black handrail running up the left side. The rail is fixed securely into the brick base and extends along the landing, so there is a hand hold while opening the door.

Good to know

Points to think about in Christchurch

Some older properties near the town centre have narrow hallways and steep stairs, so we check wall construction carefully to make sure every fixing is sound. For shops and hospitality venues, rails at the entrance help customers of all ages. If the building is listed or in a conservation area, check with BCP Council whether external rails need approval. In holiday lets and guest houses, rails on steps and stairs help guests who are unfamiliar with the building.
