Gates in Bournemouth

Driveway, garden and security gates designed, made and fitted for Bournemouth homes and businesses.

Gates for Bournemouth properties

Heritage Gates & Railings designs, manufactures and installs gates across Bournemouth, from the seafront roads of Southbourne to the tree-lined avenues of Talbot Woods and the family streets around Queen's Park and Charminster. Whether you want a pair of driveway gates to close off the front of a detached house or a single side gate to secure a garden path, we build it to fit the opening you have.

Every gate is designed and built in house, so we control the quality from the first drawing to the final fixing. You can choose metal or timber, swing or sliding, manual or electric. Each installation comes with our 12-month guarantee on labour and parts, and we have been making gates for local properties since 2009.

Metal gates

Iron and steel gates suit many Bournemouth frontages, from Edwardian villas to modern builds. We design each pair to the width of your drive and the style of the house: plain bars and a flat top for a clean look, or spear heads, scrolls and gilded finials for something more traditional. A strong metal gate marks the boundary clearly and deters intruders.

Bespoke metal gates

Wooden gates

Timber gives a softer, natural look that ages well. Our carpentry team makes wooden gates in hardwood or softwood, with closed boards for privacy or open spindles along the top to let light through. Choose from the sixteen designs in our Heritage range, or ask for a gate built to your own drawing and measurements. If you already have a design from the range in mind, we can show you photos of it before you decide.

Automatic gates

An electric gate lets you open the drive without stepping out of the car, which helps on a wet evening or if a heavy gate is hard to move. We fit swing and sliding automation from brands including Nice, FAAC, CAME and BFT, and can add an intercom so you can speak to callers before letting them in. Automation can also be added to many existing gates, which we can assess when we visit.

Commercial gates

For flats, offices, schools and hotels we make sliding and automated security gates built for daily use. A sliding gate runs along the boundary rather than swinging out, so it suits entrances with limited space. Height, locks and access control can all be specified to suit the site. We can advise on the right opening method once we have seen how vehicles use the entrance.

Black metal double gates with a row of rings along the top rail across a bungalow driveway

Ring-top gates to a bungalow

Set across a newly surfaced drive, these gates sit low enough to keep the bungalow and its lawn in view. One leaf is fixed to a heavy square post against the brick wall, while the other closes onto a slim post by the hedge, leaving a wide opening for the car.

Five-bar gate on a gravel drive

Sunlight falls through the trees onto this white field-style gate on a gravel drive. The diagonal brace runs from the hanging post to the far corner, keeping the long leaf from sagging. Square timber posts at each end suit a leafy, semi-rural entrance.

Pair of close-boarded timber gates with a curved top between brick and flint piers

Curved-top timber driveway gates

A pair of close-boarded timber gates with a gently curved top fills the opening between two brick piers, one faced with flint. The boards run full height for privacy, and the stained finish picks up the warm colour of the brickwork and the block-paved drive beneath.

Braced timber field-style gates

Two natural timber gates in a traditional field style meet in the middle of this driveway. Each leaf has horizontal rails with diagonal bracing, and the open design keeps the house and garden visible from the road. The heavy posts are set either side of a tarmac drive lined with shrubs.

Good to know

Things to consider in Bournemouth

Homes near the cliff top take the brunt of salt air, so ask us about finishes that suit coastal metalwork and plan an occasional wash-down to keep them looking their best. Gates next to a road usually need planning permission if they are taller than one metre, so check with BCP Council before you order. If your drive opens onto a busy street, let us know about parking so we can plan the installation day. Gates that open inwards keep the pavement clear, which is worth considering on narrow roads.
